In response to two mass murders, the executive is taking it upon itself to pressure the legislatures to get gun control laws through. There’s continued talk of “executive action,” but it appears Harris wants the permanence of a legislative approach. Amidst this, Feinstein has reintroduced her assault weapon ban. Ted Cruz has responded with his Grasley-Cruz law.
The city of Boulder banned common “assault weapons” and ten round magazines. In Chambers v. City of Boulder, the court ruled the city law preempted by state law.
In the interesting case of Young v. Hawaii, where the state’s carry standard requiring demonstration of “the urgency or the need” to carry a firearm. Because the court previously said there was no right to concealed carry, the question was focused on the right to carry openly. The court determined open carry is beyond the scope of the Second Amendment
The Iowa State University’s Students for 2A chapter had long planned an event educating the students about 3D-printed guns and home gunmaking. Because the pre-planned email went out right after the shooting in Colorado (which did not involve printed guns at all), there was tremendous rage by failed politicians and other ne’er do wells.
This is an interesting one, as it’s a tale full of lies, misdirection, hubris, and more. We’ve got Josh Shapiro claiming victory, the moms gloating, and more. But what really went on?
The Lewiston Tribune just put out an editorial board op-ed about a bill that would allow Idaho teachers with an enhanced carry permit to carry their firearms in work, as long as they inform the school principal and law enforcement. The reaction? Well, that teachers are mentally ill, of course.
Delaware and Oregon are both seeing bills to ban “undetectable” and “untraceable” firearms advance in the state legislature. The delaware proposal makes it a felony to possess or manufacture “an untraceable, undetectable or covert firearm,” in addition to criminalizing the possession of unfinished frames or receivers without serial numbers, and to manufacture or distribute printed guns or instructions on how to make guns on a 3D printer. THe Oregon bill, SB396, is largely similar.
