ZERT Coffee & ChaosThis show offers commentary on the latest firearms industry news, information and buzz. I’m your host Matthew Larosiere and I’m here with my co-host Shawn Herrin.
In a sudden turn of events, the ATF announced that it would be pulling its proposed guidance documents “upon further consultation with the Department of Justice and the Office of the deputy Attorney General.”
This comes right after a Free beacon story was posted about how industry members have been pressing representatives to do something to scuttle the proposed document.
In the new stimulus bill, there’s language saying that no funds shall be used to deny the import of US origin Curio or Relic firearms, and some are getting all excited thinking this will enable importation of the infuriatingly embargoed M1 Carbines. Those people may not have looked at the appropriations bills for the last two or so decades, though.
If you remember, after Parkland the state of Florida passed its first rack of gun laws in decades. The laws, of course, were republican-originated and passed. One of these was banning adults aged 18 to 20 from purchasing firearms. The ensuing lawsuit has been going on since 2018, and presently the fight is over the expert the State is trying to use. Florida State University College of Medicine professor Bhide, who the state is shoveling $500 per hour to testify as an expert on adolescent brain development. Bhide contends that the brain is undeveloped until it’s 21 or whatever, which really has nothing to do with human rights.
In a leaked recording, Biden chided his more progressive colleagues about their over-enthusiasm for executive authority. He referred to the Constitution as the supreme law of the land, without which, “we have nothing.” An interesting juxtaposition with his statement that “nobody” fought harder to ban assault weapons than him.
This week ShotSpotter, a company who makes systems for cops to be able to pinpoint gunshot locations, announced that seven cities, all with small populations under 50k, would be adopting the technology.
Maryland Shall Issue, an incredible group of passionate civil rights activists, have filed a petition for cert to the US Supreme Court. The lawsuit focuses on Maryland’s SB707 of 2018, which criminalizes the mere possession of “rapid-fire trigger activators.” Maryland residents were compelled to dispose of them without any compensation, and MSI is arguing that this works a 5th amendment taking, which is entitled to just compensation.
In its fifth year, an event paid for by New York socialite Jean Shafiroff saw Hempstead children Monday trading their water pistols and plastic revolvers for holiday gifts. This exchange program is meant to teach youths that toy guns can be mistaken for real ones.
About 100 toy guns were swapped for other less provocative alternatives during the Long Island Toy Gun Exchange Program Monday morning at the village’s Brierley Park. A NYT profile noted that her actions have caused “some to question whether her primary motive is philanthropy or publicity.”
Lots of stuff went wild this week when a photo surfaced, appearing to be a Kel-Tec advert about the “P50,” which looked to be a P90-mag-fed Kelgren creation. It’s not clear what this is all about yet, but it’s clear to me that I need one.
