Texas Gov. Abbott: Castle Doctrine Bill is Dead at the Door

As we discussed last week, there was a bill proposed in Texas to remove its home defense law. In response to this, Gov Abbott came out to say on Twitter: “Let me be clear. The Castle Doctrine will not be reduced. We won’t force Texas homeowners to retreat. Especially with the crazy “defund police” ideas, homeowners need to protect themselves now more than ever. We will protect 2nd Amendment rights.”

This was in response to Meza’s tweet of “What my bill would do if passed, would require a homeowner to exhaust the potential of safely retreating into their habitation before using deadly force in defense of themselves or their property.

I filed this bill because the castle doctrine as it currently exists emboldens people to take justice into their own hands. While theft is obviously wrong, we have laws to address that. I don’t believe that stealing someone’s lawn ornament should be an offense punishable by death.”

Teddy Roosevelt’s Revolver Brings $1.4 Million

On Rock Island’s second day of their “Sale of the Century,” Teddy Roosevelt’s Colt SAA sold for $1.4 million dollars. It was one of several firearms up for sale belonging to famous historical figures, including Elvis Presley, Annie Oakley, and more.

Air force buys B&T Submachine Guns

B&T just announced that the USAF purchased a bunch of the APC9K PRO subguns in 9mm. It’s the second branch after the Army to purchase the subgun after the military decided they needed a highly concealable SMG.

Salon: Litigation Stops Gun Industry from Catering to Bad Guys

In an incredible self-congratulating piece written on Salon, the author lauds lawsuits against non-firearm companies as a check against companies arming the “bad guy with a gun” with black powder firearms and 80%s. This, of course, despite the fact that those are scarcely ever used in crime. The author posits that Biden may be able to “fix” this “loophole,” and that “the time is ripe for a historic, responsibility-focused shift in gun policy. And the fact that Congress is still paralyzed no longer matters all that much. Change is coming anyway. Perhaps it already has.”

LA destroys man’s firearm collection and may now have to pay for it

In a decision that’s been talked about a lot. LAPD seized a man’s collection of 400 firearms, and for ages he was actively seeking to have them returned. While the agents were actively working with the man, they snuck around and petitioned a different court for an order to destroy the firearms by smelting. Now the lawsuit can go forward, holding “that a reasonable factfinder could conclude that officer Edwards violated plaintiff’s due process rights. The panel had no doubt that officer Edwards had fair notice that his conduct violated plaintiff’s due process right to notice, and therefore he was not entitled to qualified immunity.”

However, it upheld a defense of qualified immunity for the two particular LAPD officers involved.

Trauma doctor warns that two “public health crises” could converge

At Jamaica Hospital in New York, Dr. Katherine McKenzie oversees the treatment of people who are seriously injured, often as a result of car crashes or gun violence. “With COVID-19 cases rising again and gun violence remaining a problem in the city, McKenzie is concerned that the hospital could be caught at the intersection of two public health crises.” This, another aggressive misuse of the concept of public health.

Wisconsin Mall Employs Gun-Sniffing Dogs

So now two weeks after a terrible shooting at Mayfair Mall, officials announced that dog cops will be detecting firearms at the mall entrance. “If you walk through the mall, a dog team will screen you and you will never even realize it occurred because the dog won’t make physical contact with you, and will basically sniff the air that is coming off your body after you’ve passed.” “When these dogs approach you, you’re not in trouble,” said Pearce. “They just want to find out if you have a firearm on you. And if you’re licensed to carry, that’s not an issue, but you’re not going to be able to stay in the mall.”

Americans are searching for 80% firearms like mad

With ATF head Lombardo announcing that pistol braces and “80% receivers” are on the agency’s “top priority” list, internet searches for “80% lower” have exploded to new highs.
